You may be required to pay for services provided by MPI. The fees and charges listed below are calculated on a cost-recovery basis. Further information about the regulations governing fees and charges can be found in the Policy and law section of the website.

Finding fees and charges

Fees and charges, inclusive of GST, are listed on application forms and other relevant documents. In some cases, as well as a flat charge, you may need to pay an hourly rate for assessment or verification.

Charges specific to the wine industry

All costs incurred by MPI are recovered under sections 84 and 85 of the Wine Act and Regulation 15 of the Wine Regulations 2006.

The following charges are specific to wine businesses:

  • registration and verification of your Wine Standards Management Plan (WSMP)
  • making an amendment to your WSMP
  • registration as an exporter of non-New Zealand grape wine.

Funding support for export certification

The wine export programme for New Zealand grape wine is currently supported by a limited amount of Crown funding. You can find out more about this on the page, Funding for export certification in the left-hand menu.

Charges for becoming a verifier, recognised agency or laboratory

If you want to undertake wine verification or testing, you need to pay application fees to become:

  • a recognised person
  • a for recognised agency
  • a recognised laboratory.
